We are pleased to announce that the Orbit TriSens has entered full production, marking a key milestone for our intelligent revolving door designed for high-traffic environments.

A new approach to entrance design

Developed in close collaboration with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the Orbit TriSens introduces a new approach to entrance design.

  • Patented three-wing system
  • Intelligent sliding doors
  • Real-time intuitive response to user flow

Inspired by natural systems, it senses and adapts to changing conditions, creating movement that feels both welcoming and secure, even in the most demanding environments.

Following global recognition in 2023, including the Red Dot Design Award, IF Design Award and German Design Award, the solution moved into extensive real-world testing at Schiphol Airport, one of the world’s most complex movement ecosystems.

With production now underway, Boon Edam has completed a second installation at Stuttgart Airport. Initial availability will focus on the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Norway, the UAE and India.

Proven in real-world conditions

Tested in one of the world’s busiest airport environments, Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the Orbit TriSens has been shaped by real user behaviour, operational pressure and critical safety scenarios. This ensures reliable performance in conditions where consistency and trust are essential.

By adapting to demand in real time, the system supports peak-flow management, reducing pressure during high-volume periods without compromising safety or user experience.

With the Orbit TriSens, we set out to build an entrance for environments that never stand still - delivering a
seamless experience for every user,” said Gijs Bakker, Chief Technical Officer at Royal Boon Edam International.

Through real-world collaboration, we have created a solution that is intuitive and easy to use, while delivering high reliability for operators."

“It represents a revolution for our clients in how entrances perform, and an evolution for the people who use them every day."

By focusing on uptime, adaptability and long-term value, we are helping buildings operate more efficiently while delivering a consistent, welcoming and secure experience.”

Built for complex, high-traffic environments

While it was developed in an airport, the Orbit TriSens is suited to a wide range of buildings, including:

  • Corporate headquarters
  • Transport hubs and stations
  • Healthcare facilities
  • Retail environments
  • Public buildings

In each of these ecosystems, achieving the right balance among security, comfort, and fl ow is critical without compromising performance.

An entrance that adapts for long term-value

It delivers:

  • A breakthrough in entrance design
  • Patented three-wing design with intelligent sliding doors
  • Real-time response to changing movement patterns
  • Intuitive guidance for safe and smooth transitions
  • Proven uptime in demanding environments
  • High operational continuity and reliability
  • Optimised total cost of ownership over the full lifecycle
  • Reliable performance under high capacity conditions, without congestion
  • Adaptability to future technologies and regulations
  • Award-winning technology
  • Seamless integration with modern architecture

Engineered for durability and shaped by real-world use, it is a solution that helps organisations deliver a welcome that lasts- secure, reliable and ready for the future.

Q&A

Q: What makes the Orbit TriSens diff erent from other high-traffi c entrance solutions?

The Orbit TriSens is built around intelligent adaptability. Instead of operating in a fixed way, it continuously senses and responds to its surroundings - adjusting to crowd levels, movement patterns, emergency situations and different user needs in real time.

By combining advanced sensing technology with design-led engineering, it delivers a balance of
safe, secure and intuitive movement, while maintaining high uptime and operational continuity. This creates a solution
that is easy for people to use and reliable and efficient for operators throughout the full lifecycle.

Q: Why was Schiphol chosen for real-life testing?

Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam is one of the most complex mobility environments in the world, where passenger volumes, behaviours, accessibility needs and operational demands change constantly.

Testing the Orbit TriSens in this setting allowed us to validate:

  • Real-time system response to peak and off -peak flows
  • User interaction and intuitive behaviour
  • Performance under high capacity and continuous use
  • Safe operation during emergency scenarios

By observing how people naturally move and their reactions, we refined the entrance to support a seamless, welcoming and secure experience.

Q: Can the Orbit TriSens be used beyond airports?

Yes. While airports provided an ideal development environment, the Orbit TriSens is designed for a wide range of high-traffic buildings.

This includes:

  • Retail environments
  • Transport hubs and stations
  • Healthcare facilities
  • Corporate headquarters
  • Public buildings

In each setting, it supports secure, comfortable and efficient movement for large numbers of people, without compromising performance or reliability.

Q: What were the key learnings from the testing phase?

A key insight was that modern entrances must respond dynamically to both movement and behaviour. It is not only about managing volume, but also about guiding people safely and intuitively through a space.

This includes:

  • Supporting safe and clear escape routes in emergency situations
  • Balancing a welcoming feel with secure movement
  • Adapting to accessibility needs and diff erent user groups
  • Maintaining performance during continuous, high-volume use

These learnings shaped the Orbit TriSens into a solution that delivers consistent uptime, intuitive guidance and a secure, user-centred experience

Q: When will the Orbit TriSens be available?

The Orbit TriSens has now entered full production. Initial availability focuses on the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Norway, the UAE and India, with further markets planned as part of the global rollout.

Q: How does the Orbit TriSens support sustainability goals?

The Orbit TriSens is designed with sustainability at its core, supporting long-term environmental performance across a building’s lifecycle. Durable, high-quality engineering reduces replacement cycles and maintenance, lowering overall resource use and operational impact.

Energy efficiency is driven by the “always open, always closed” principle, maintaining a consistent barrier between indoor and outdoor environments to reduce energy loss. Thermal performance is further improved through thermally broken profiles and an actively insulated canopy, helping to stabilise indoor temperatures and minimise heating and cooling demand.

For enhanced insulation, vacuum glass can be integrated into the doorset. This lightweight solution uses a vacuum layer to significantly reduce heat transfer, improving overall energy efficiency.

The system is also designed to evolve, enabling buildings to adapt to future technologies, regulations and sustainability targets without replacing the full entrance system, delivering a reliable and future-ready solution.
