Hudson's Bay

Two high-end department stores are located on the site of the former Fortis head office at the Rokin in the heart of Amsterdam. Rokin 21 and Rokin 49 are both rented by the Canadian Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) department store, making this their Dutch headquarters.

Hudson’s Bay is proudly the oldest North American company, founded in 1881. The Rokin location is said to be the first of twenty branches planned for the Netherlands and it opened its doors in September 2017 to an enthusiastic crowd.

The two stately buildings which make up the store both have a new façade, which has been designed to blend in with the historic area in which they are located. They gain their authenticity with 3D curved aluminum façades and curtain walls housing enormous windows. There are seven identical windows are repeated upwards from the first floor to the fourth floor, each with a width of 4 meters and a height of 14 meters. You will also an attractive alternating flat fill of natural stone between the striking feature windows.

The aluminum storefront display windows on the ground floor are even larger in size of 4.5 by 3 meters. A collaboration between local entry experts Boon Edam and Stackdoor has resulted in an impressively tall entrance through a glass Tourniket original revolving door with a height of 4.3 meters.
